About Battleship War

Battleship War is a digital version of the classic naval strategy game. Two players deploy fleets of ships across a 10×10 grid — hidden from their opponent — and alternate firing coordinates to sink the opponent's vessels. The first player to sink all enemy ships wins. Ships range from the single-cell submarine to the five-cell carrier, and each occupies a fixed set of grid coordinates that fires from the opponent must hit to sink it.

The game supports single-player against AI opponents at multiple difficulty levels and two-player mode on a shared screen. The AI difficulty levels reflect different search strategies: easy AI fires largely randomly; medium AI follows up hits intelligently; hard AI applies probability density tracking where each miss and hit updates the likely position of remaining ships to target the highest-probability cells.

Strategic Placement and Search

Ship placement: avoid placing ships adjacent to each other, since an initial hit on one gives the opponent information that helps find the next. Clustering ships in corners increases the opponent's search time but makes the corner areas a higher-value target once one ship is found. Searching: fire on a chequerboard pattern rather than systematically — every ship has at least two cells, and a chequerboard pattern guarantees hitting every ship in exactly half the grid squares rather than potentially clustering searches and missing compact ships. On a hit, probe perpendicularly to the hit until you confirm orientation, then fire along that axis to sink the ship.
