About Roommate

Roommate is a horror game where you're sharing an apartment with an entity that presents as a normal roommate but behaves increasingly erratically as nights progress. The game is built around the uncanny valley — the roommate looks almost right but not quite, moves at slightly wrong speeds, and responds to your actions with reactions that are plausible but off-register. This is in sharp contrast to the explicit monster designs of games like Granny; the horror in Roommate is ambient and psychological rather than jump-driven.

Survival requires reading the roommate's behaviour to stay safe — certain areas of the apartment become dangerous during specific hours, certain actions provoke escalating responses, and the roommate's schedule changes between nights. Learning the patterns and working within them to complete night objectives without triggering escalation is the core loop.

Reading the Roommate

Early nights should be observation sessions rather than objective-completion attempts. Note which rooms the roommate occupies at which hours and what triggers a behavioural shift — these patterns are consistent between runs and once learned fundamentally change how reachable the apartment's restricted areas are. Avoid direct confrontation whenever possible; the safest position is one room removed from the roommate's current location at all times, and moving ahead of their patrol rather than retreating behind it prevents the dead-end situations that escalate to dangerous encounters.
