About Fireboy and Watergirl 3: The Ice Temple

Fireboy and Watergirl 3: The Ice Temple takes the beloved cooperative platformer series into a frozen world of slippery floors and sliding ice blocks. After mastering the Forest and Light Temples, Fireboy and Watergirl enter a glacier-carved ruin where the central challenge is ice physics: both characters slide on icy floor tiles, and large ice blocks can be pushed in any cardinal direction — gliding until they hit a wall. Positioning these blocks to bridge gaps, hold down pressure plates, and create platforms is the defining puzzle mechanic of this instalment.

The elemental rules remain unchanged: Fireboy is immune to fire and lava but must avoid water; Watergirl is safe in water and ice pools but must avoid fire. Both characters are instantly eliminated by the green toxic sludge pools scattered throughout the temple. The same two-player cooperative design applies — one keyboard controls both characters simultaneously, Fireboy on arrow keys and Watergirl on WASD. Solo players can solve all puzzles by switching between characters.

How to Play

Guide both characters to their respective exit doors — red for Fireboy, blue for Watergirl — after collecting all gems in the level. Solve ice-block puzzles by pushing blocks into positions that complete a path or activate a switch. On icy floor tiles, both characters continue sliding until they hit a wall or block; plan movement accordingly to avoid sliding into hazards.

Many rooms require one character to hold a pressure plate open while the other navigates a sliding-ice section, making precise coordination essential. Survey each room fully before committing — ice blocks can only be pushed, not pulled, so an incorrectly placed block may require restarting the room.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can Watergirl stand in ice pools?

Yes — ice and water pools are safe for Watergirl. Fire pools are fatal. Both characters still slide on icy floor tiles regardless of element.

What happens if I push an ice block into a dead-end position?

You can restart the current room from the level menu if a block becomes irretrievably stuck. Careful planning before pushing is always better than hoping you can correct a bad placement.

Is this harder than Fireboy and Watergirl 1 or 2?

Yes — the ice block sliding adds spatial reasoning on top of the cooperative coordination. Players who mastered the Forest and Light Temples will find the Ice Temple the most mentally demanding of the three.

Tips & Strategies

Before pushing any ice block, trace its full slide path to the wall it will hit. A block that slides four tiles to the right might look harmless but can block the only route for the other character. Treat each push as a permanent layout change — confirm it solves the puzzle before committing.

On slippery floor sections, use walls as deliberate braking points. A long sliding run can carry a character across a wide gap that normal walking speed would drop them into. In co-op, communicate before either player moves on ice — a sliding character can knock a carefully positioned block out of place if the other player is not expecting the movement.
